History of Leicester Community Islamic School
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH Subhanahu Wa Ta'alaah THE MOST MERCIFUL
Through the infinite mercy of the Almighty Subhanahu Wa Ta'alaah, Islam attaches great importance to education.
The Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam asked the ALMIGHTY O’ My Lord! Advance me in Knowledge. (Holy Qur’an 20:114)

Education, Knowledge and learning has traditionally been divided into two categories – revealed knowledge (Qur’an and Prophetic sayings) and acquired knowledge (natural sciences, physics, astronomy, history, mathematics etc.) There has been great need in the society to have quality education in a safe and disciplined environment.
Through the mercy of the Almighty Subhanahu Wa Ta'alaah, our school provides a unique experience based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, where non-selective process, equal opportunity and open-door policy is at the centre of the school ethos.
Alhamdulillah Darul Arqam Educational Institute was established in the year 2000. We started with eight pupils (4 in year 7 and 4 in primary), a Head teacher and two teachers. Today Alhumdulillah after many challenges we have approximately 200 pupils on roll in the school (Primary & Secondary) and approximately 150 pupils in the Madrasah, in total we have over 300 pupils at the School and Madrasah.
The school is now run under the new name called 'Leicester Community Islamic School' (previously known as 'Darul Arqam Educational Institute') and we are now in a new building on 2 Overton Road, Leicester. (Off Humberstone Road). We have a separate Primary and Secondary Department which are both situated within the same building.
We have the following primary and secondary classes:
- Years 1-6 (Ages 5-10 years).
- Secondary girls - Years 7 - 11 (Ages 11-16 years).
- Secondary boys - Years 7 - 11 (Ages 11-16 years).
We have the secondary girls on the ground floor completely segregated from the secondary boys who are on the first floor. We also have separate entrances for both secondary boys and girls and their school starting and finishing times are different, whereby there is no mixing of the pupils at the secondary level.
Both Primary and Secondary Departments have a Library where the pupils are allowed to borrow books.
We are also close to Spence Street Sports Centre where we are planning to take the students in the near future for sports activities and swimming.
The Future
Inshaallah we pray we can hold A’s Level & GNVQ classes in the near future to accommodate our pupils and students from the community to attain further education at the institute.
Ofsted Inspection
Subhanallah, Alhumdulillah, Allahukbar, all praises are for Allah SWT who has showered our school with mercy in great abundance. Alhumdulilah our schools Ofsted Inspection is now complete.
Ofsted gave the school a very good inspection report, for a school that started with only 8 children and 3 teachers, today with the grace and mercy of Allah SWT we have approximately 200 pupils on roll and approximately 150 pupils in our Madrasah, Alhumdulilah!
Leicester Community Islamic School was called a "Caring Community" and "staff, parents and children are very happy at the school". "The quality of education is good overall and outstanding in some cases". The good report from Ofsted has only been achieved by the mercy of Allah SWT, the barakah of following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhummad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, the hard work and duas of all the teachers, parents, students and the community.
Please continue with your duas and support, Inshallah together we can make a "very good school" and "outstanding school"!
